February 11, 2010
Well the storm has us all snowed in. The day before the big event I signed Madeline and Carson up to compete down in Aiken at Sporting days in March but not sure how training is going to work out for the next 3 weeks. Lots of work in the snow should help condition both of them. I am debating on riding in the combined training event with my boarders horse Ben. I think I just might wait till April to do my first event at Plantation. There is not much to report other than we have a lot of snow!! Till later.

Feb. 6, 2008
Well the snow has begun to fall, more like the blizzard has begun! Madeline did some flat work on Carson before the weather got to bad. She is more determined than ever to do well in school and to ride well now that she is going recognized. We are hoping that her first event will be Sporting days farm the weekend of March 5-7. It gives me 1 month to get everything ready to take the trip down but at least this time I will have company in the truck with me. I am more excited for Madeline to compete than I was for myself. Our biggest issue will be "can I get the funds together to get her entered to go down?" Luckily I have some good eventing friends who have offered to help us out with stabling and accomadations for ourselves. Sally Lofting has offered a few stalls at her place and my good friend Joe from "Bit of Britain" is helping us find a place to stay.
The goal is for Madeline to compete in at least one event a month to get her qualified for the AEC's. I would love to try and get qualified if I can get my mare ready by the summer.
So riding this week is going to be a little difficult with the forcast of 24 inches of snow or possibly more. Hopefully Madeline can trot across the street to our good friends at Greenfields equestrian center to use their indoor to get some riding in.

1/29/2010-Well this is the first time I am attempting a blog. I really have no idea how this will turn out but hopefully it will give you an idea what my busy life is like. Right now I am working nightshift at the hospital and counting the hours down till my shift is over. Then I get to go home and get children off to school, take a nap and work with the horses. We have three horses of our own, Carson-a 15 y/o flea bitten Gray TB gelding, Stormy- a 5y/o roan colored pony of some sort, and my horse Step Aside-17 y/o bay TB mare. I also board Ben-a 17 y/o chestnut ISH gelding at my house. We have 2 dogs, Sam a 5 y/o Golden retriever and Pebbles a 18month old Shitzu and2 cats, Cherish and Po. I have three beautiful daughters Ali (16), Madeline (11) and Abigail (8) and my husband Steve. Poor guy is truly out numbered at our house.
I wanted to start a blog about my life with my family and horses.
I am looking for help with rehabbing my horse Steppy who is recovering from EPM that she contracted in Dec. after getting a very bad leg injury from trying to jump out her stall door.
So far the medication that we have tried is working wonderful. She was on Marquis for 1 month and had made tremendous progress. When she first got diagnosed, I was told I should think about putting her down. But she progressed so fast with treatment that the idea of putting her down is no longer at option at this point. Her leg injury involved degloving of her left leg from her upper inside of her back leg down and skin avulsions to her chest and withers. We treated the wounds aggressively with antibiotics and frequent cleanings. Eventually, she started to get proud flesh from her hind leg. I was at my wits end on how to keep treating this until I discovered a great medication called Equaide! This stuff is amazing, you simply wash the wound, dry it off and apply by painting the medication on. Within 1 week her leg looked amazing, 3 weeks later there is no proud flesh and she is starting to grow hair back. As far as the EPM, Steppy has been rehabbing herself, she has a slight inward twist to her right rear fetlock when she walks but is very stable on her feet and even feels well enough to run around the field kicking and bucking and has even jumped out the 4 ft fence to follow my daughter on her trail ride! So I started putting my daughter on her walking her over ground post and progressing to x-rails. I read that you should get them doing something that they love to do and jumping is definitely her thing to do. She was a past 2 star eventer and loved her job! So our goals this year are to get her back into the show ring by late summer, early fall and I am going to ride my boarders horse till she gets the green light. Madeline is going recognized this Spring and will continue to train with Carrie Butler-the worlds best trainer! We are also planning on going to be working students with Bonnie Mosser this summer for 2 weeks down in Virginia! We both are excited for that. Ali is finishing up her Junior year and has turned out to be a star student and is getting ready for lacrosse season. Abigail doesnt have any real plans other than to be the best player in little big planet until Cheerleading season comes around again in the fall. Well until next time! Thanks for reading.
